Poll: More Palestinians Favor Terror

CBNNews.com - JERUSALEM, Israel - Results of a poll by the Jerusalem Media & Communications Center confirmed that the percentage of Palestinians favoring terror attacks on Israelis continues to rise.
More than half of those polled support suicide bomb attacks, up from 44.8 percent in June 2006 to 48 percent in September 2006 to 50.7 percent in the latest survey.
A higher percentage of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip (65.1 percent) support terror against Israelis, compared to 42.3 percent of Palestinians in Judea and Samaria (the West Bank).
The poll also showed that Palestinians favor Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh, who served as prime minister during the short-lived PA unity government, over PA President Mahmoud Abbas.
Support for Abbas dropped from 18.3 percent in November to 11.7 percent in this poll, while Haniyeh's dropped from 16.3 percent in November to 13.3 percent in April.
Similarly, support for both Palestinian factions, Fatah and Hamas is falling, as is the level of trust in their respective leaders.
Overall, nearly half of the Palestinian population (49.5 percent) supports terror attacks as legitimate "resistance" against Israel.
Meanwhile, the PA president, en route to Washington to meet with President Bush, told the press a "framework agreement" can be reached by the end of the year.
"Our priority objective, which is also that of President Bush, is to complete the negotiations by the end of 2008," Abbas said.
"[The Palestinians] hope to reach not an agreement of principles but a framework agreement to be used as the basis for a final agreement," Abbas said.
"If we succeed, the rest will be simpler. If the year ends without results, we will face a difficult situation. It will take two years for the new administration in the US to become familiar with the deal. We want to avoid such disarray," he said.
He added, "There is no doubt that it is in the best interest of President Bush to see this agreement concluded during his term."
