The Clinton Campaign’s Outreach to Catholics

With Catholics poised to make up roughly one third of the vote in tonight’s Pennsylvania primary, the Clinton and Obama campaigns have been in overdrive mode trying to win over Catholics. We’ll have more on the Obama outreach in an upocoming separate post.
The following information comes to me from Burns Strider, Hillary Clinton’s Faith Outreach Director. He sent me a list of ways the Clinton campaign has been reaching out to Catholics all over the state: Examples are below:
"A Catholic to Catholic Postcard Program where “Catholics for Clinton” in some Parishes mailed postcards showing and asking for support of Senator Clinton from their fellow parishioners.”
"A strong Catholic calling program that many Nuns have volunteered for."
"Chelsea Clinton attended Mass on April 20th at St. Christopher’s in NE Philadelphia with several Catholic surrogates including Congressman Crowley, Congresswoman Maloney, Ambassador Bagley and local elected officials."
"On April 13th, a Catholic Conversation was held in Harrisburg PA, in a private home. About 30 area Catholics attended. Speakers at the conversation were Melanne Verveer (former Chief of Staff to Senator Clinton when First Lady) Ambassador Elizabeth Bagley (former Ambassador to Portugal) and Ambassador Ray Flynn (former Ambassador to the Vatican). The conversation took place prior to the Compassion Forum at Messiah."
"An Irish Catholic event was held on April 19th at Finnegan’s Wake in Philadelphia featuring Governor Martin O’Malley, Congressman Joe Crowley, Ambassador Bagley, Congressman Maloney and the Mayor of Buffalo. Approximately 300 people attended. "
"Catholic Surrogates Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Ambassador Bagley, Congressman Crowley, Governor O’Malley and Ambassador Ray Flynn visited the state campaigning for Hillary." Read Kathleen Kennedy Townsend's letter to Catholics here.
Hillary Clinton has done very well among Catholics in this election. She’ll need to clean up Tuesday night if she wants that double digit victory.
