CBNNews.com - DAMASCUS - On Wednesday, Champress, an "independent" Syrian Web site, reported that Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has agreed to cede sovereignty of the Golan Heights to Syria.

According to the Web site, Olmert's decision to cede the Golan was conveyed through Turkist Premier Recep Tayyip Erogan.

Syrian President Bashar Assad recently revealed that third-party talks were taking place with Israel, while claiming that he is not interested in secret negotiations.

Nonetheless, Bashar and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert have gone back and forth between alluding to third-party talks and denying them.

Over the weekend, in an interview in the Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot, Olmert repeated remarks he's often made in the past.

"What I can say is that I am very interested in a peace process with Syria. I've been acting on this issue and I hope that my efforts mature into something meaningful," Olmert said.

"I can assure you that on matters concerning Israel and the Syrians, they are well aware of what I want from them, and I know very well what they want from us," he said.
