CBNNews.com - TEHERAN, Iran - On Thursday, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said America is on an unstoppable downhill trend.

"The Americans are on the verge of destruction anyone who sides with them will also go the same way," the Iranian president told ISNA, the Iranian Students News Agency.

Ahmadinejad's remarks were made during an official visit of Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moallem to Teheran, in the context of warning Syria and other Arab countries to beware of associating with the U.S.

"We must always be prepared to thwart the plans of the U.S. in the region," he said.

According to Ahmadinejad, the Bush administration has reached a diplomatic dead end with Arab countries in the Middle East, due to its own internal problems, which are reflected in the upcoming presidential elections.

For his part, Moallem accused America of resorting to baseless accusations in the region to create conflict and divide the Arab nations of the Middle East.

Moallem also praised the Hamas government in the Gaza Strip.

"Despite the blockade on Gaza and the continuing Israeli aggression, Gazans have succeeded in continuing the resistance under the leadership of Hamas and conducting their affairs," Moallem said, praising the "peoples' movement of Hamas" for strengthening itself under adversity.
