President Bush declared Thursday "Malaria Awareness Day," to call for new efforts to fight the deadly disease.

Friday is World Malaria Day.

About 500 million people are infected every year with Malaria, and more than one million die.

The disease, which is spread through mosquitoes, seems to hit Africa hardest, but is also found in Asia, Latin America, the Middle Wast and parts of Europe.

This means 40 percent of the world's population is threatened by malaria.

There are , however, some simple answers to dealing with the disease, like bed nets and insecticide sprays.

But the hard part is putting the funding and resources together, and that's where partnerships between faith groups, government and business come in.

Wess Stafford, president of Compassion International, spoke with CBN News on the about the need for partnerships, in fighting the malaria crisis.
