CBNNews.com - With news of higher food prices, teens in North Carolina are doing their part to help feed hungry families.

They call it "Boats for Goats."

The high-schoolers raised more than $50,000 to purchase goats for poor families in Haiti and Africa.

They did it by hosting a paddleboat race in Charlotte.

It was the culmination of their six months of fund-raising efforts.

The Christian relief agency World Vision used the money to purchase 660 goats for families in nations hard hit by the food crisis.

"We decided on goats because they give milk, yogurt, and cheese and fertilizer to families who are suffering in third world countries, who are below the poverty line," one of the girls said.

The teens are planning to make the fundraiser an annual event.
