Clinton Works to Ride Wave of Momentum

CBNNews.com - CHARLOTTE, NC - Momentum may truly be on Sen. Hillary Clinton's side. She is expected to pick up a huge endorsement Tuesday from North Carolina Governor Mike Easley.
Easley will make the announcement on the steps of Capitol building in Raleigh. His support comes even as Clinton trails Senator Obama who is expected to win North Carolina.
But news of the endorsement was greeted with the screams and cheers of about 4,000 people in Charlotte, NC Monday night at the Bobcats Arena where the NBA team plays.
And as the lights dimmed, and the strobe lights flashed, Clinton and her daughter Chelsea walked out in the crowd, shaking hands and waving.
"I am thrilled that North Carolina gets to play a role this year in helping to decide this is one of the most consequential elections in our lifetime.
During her speech, Clinton talked about what she called were the failings of the Bush Administration, universal health care, stem cell research and the economy.
"Certainly having been mislead for seven years, we're going to have to pull together as a nation" to clean out the White House after President Bush leaves.
Clinton said there were "more than 22 million jobs and more people were lifted out of poverty," while her husband was in office.
Clinton vowed to create "green color jobs" and "a strategic energy fund."
She also said she'd work to lower gas prices across the nation. "Those gas prices have gone up so fast, there's clearly a problem here," she said. "If I were president now I would open an investigation by the Justice Department and the Federal Trade Commission."
She also said it was time for a closer look at OPEC. "They deliberately control supply," she said.
Clinton said she would "fix NAFTA. It will be renegotiated."
She also targeted China. "Don't you think it's time we got tough on the Chinese," she said. "And say we're not going to sit idly by."
Sen. Barack Obama also held a rally in the Tar Heel State Monday night about two hours away in Chapel Hill, at the University of North Carolina.
North Carolina holds its primary on May 6.
