CBNNews.com - RAMALLAH, West Bank - Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas and his government announced a temporary boycott of officials from abroad who participate in Israel's 60th Anniversary celebrations, to be held in May.

PA government officials will not meet with any foreigner, wanting to visit the West Bank, who has come to celebrate Israel's 60th.

"Whoever participates in such [Israeli] events will be persona non grata," an unnamed Palestinian government representative told Reuters.

"We will be marking the Naqba ["Catastrophe," an official PA holiday bemoaning the birth of the State of Israel]," he said.

"They [visiting dignitaries] have to be a bit more sensitive about the feelings of the Palestinian people," a second unnamed Palestinian official said.

According to Reuters, visiting presidents, prime ministers, ambassadors and other dignitaries, such as US President George W. Bush, would not be permanently barred from PA-controlled areas, but could meet PA leaders on a subsequent visit.

Consequently, Bush and Abbas plan to meet in Cairo, following the US President's participation in Israel's celebration.
