Obama's Pastor Holds Combative News Conference

WASHINGTON - The Reverend Jeremiah Wright says criticism of his fiery sermons is an attack on the black church "by people who know nothing about the African-American religious tradition."

At the National Press Club, Barack Obama's longtime pastor again criticized the U.S. government as imperialist and stood by his suggestion that the United States invented the HIV virus as a means of genocide against minorities.

Asked whether he believes Islam is a way to salvation, since Jesus said "No one comes to the Father except through me," Wright responded, "Jesus also said, 'Other sheep have I who are not of this fold."

When another reporter asked if Obama missed or perhaps slept through his controversial sermons, Wright snapped, "He goes to church about as much as you do. What did your pastor preach on last week?"
