Judge to Rule on Release of Church Records, Member Purge

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Church members who are suing Two Rivers Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee, to access its financial records could be expelled from the church.
The Reverend Jerry Sutton has demanded that the 70 or so members suing the megachurch repent and apologize. They have refused to do so and the church membership will vote Sunday whether to expel them.
The plaintiffs say they have retrieved a number of financial records that had been dumped in the garbage. They say some of those seem to point to the questionable use of church funds, including handwritten notes asking that a staff member be paid in cash.
A Nashville judge could rule on the records request this week. The plaintiffs also are asking for a temporary restraining order preventing their expulsion from the church.
