Israel Delays Suleiman's Visit

CBNNews.com - JERUSALEM, Israel - While Egyptian Intelligence chief Omar Suleiman wants to deliver the cease-fire he brokered with Palestinian terror groups to Israel early this week, officials in Jerusalem say the visit will be postponed.
Suleiman canceled his last two scheduled visits, but this time Israel is taking the initiative to delay a pre-Independence Day trip.
Meanwhile, in its Monday edition, the London-based Arabic newspaper Asharq al-Awsat stated that Israel will accept the Egyptian-brokered cease-fire with Hamas and 12 other Palestinian terror groups.
"After we announce the cease-fire in Cairo, the sides will be obligated to it," said an Egyptian official, quoted in the article. "In addition, Israel will open the border crossings to Gaza to allow the transfer of commercial shipments, medicine, fuel and food," he said.
In its Sunday edition, Asharq al-Awsat reported that Hamas, the ruling Palestinian faction in the Gaza Strip, promised an unprecedented escalation if Israel does not accept the cease-fire.
The paper quoted Hamas spokesman Ayman Taha who said Suleiman would deliver the offer from Hamas and 12 Palestinian terror cells to Israeli officials on Monday.
Sami Abu Zhuri, another Hamas spokesman, said the group is waiting for Israel's response before deciding whether to restrain from further terror attacks during the temporary calm outlined by Egypt or escalate attacks against Israel.
"All options are open. The ball is in the Israeli court," Abu Zuhri said. Either accept our terms or "it may lead to unprecedented escalation."
