CBNNews.com - JERUSALEM, Israel - The Shin Bet (General Security Agency) and the Israel Defense Force (IDF) notched up security as threats rose of specific terror attacks on Yom Ha'atzma'ut (Independence Day).
Two weeks ago, terrorists issued seven specific warnings, along with dozens of general threats, but specific warnings climbed to 11 over the past few days.
The IDF imposed a full closure on areas under Palestinian Authority (PA) control Monday evening, which is slated to be lifted Thursday evening, depending on the security situation on the ground.
Israeli communities within range of Palestinian rocket fire from the Gaza Strip are also on high alert as the nation celebrates Independence Day.
Residents of the rocket-beleaguered city of Sderot plan to celebrate despite Palestinian threats.
"Sderot needs to celebrate," the city's mayor, Eli Moyal, said. This is our answer to terrorism," he said.
"We will not hold back the celebrations in the city. It is important they be held," it said.
Like the rest of the country, Sderot's Independence Day festivities include dance and song performances on a stage set up for occasion. There will also be a fireworks display.
In the event of unwanted "fireworks" from Gaza, "We will make our decisions with the IDF. For now, I hope it will be quiet," the mayor said.
