CBNNews.com - JERUSALEM, Israel - Israeli President Shimon Peres received well wishes from the nations on Israel's 60th anniversary celebration.
Among leaders sending congratulatory letters were French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Britain's Queen Elizabeth, President Giorgio Napolitano of Italy, Austria's Heinz Fischer, Irish President Mary McAleese and New York Senator Hillary Clinton
"As you know, France has always been committed to Israel's security and to the quest for a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the Middle East, to which the peoples of the region aspire," wrote French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
"As in the past, France will continue to stand by you and to work together with you toward this goal in order to end the suffering of the Israelis and Palestinians, which has been going on far too long," he wrote.
Sarkozy plans to visit Israel in June.
"It gives me great pleasure to send Your Excellency my congratulations on the celebration of your National Day, on the 60th anniversary of your independence," Queen Elizabeth wrote. "I extend my best wishes for the happiness and prosperity of the government and the people of Israel in the coming year," she wrote.
Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton said she would continue to strengthen ties between the US and Israel if she is elected president.
