Evangelical Manifesto Includes Self-Critical Call to Reform

WASHINGTON - The authors of "An Evangelical Manifesto" say it calls for a reaffirmation of identity, a reformation in evangelical behavior and a repositioning in society.
But at a news conference in Washington, evangelical author Os Guinness said, "This is not an attempt to re-label because we have a bad image -- we do -- the tragedy is we have bad reality."
Guinness said reform is desperately needed when some prominent evangelicals preach diluted "feel-good gospels," make false prophecies or provoke other Americans to view them as fascist theocrats.
The manifesto urges evangelicals to repent and reform their own behavior so they can attractively present and represent Jesus Christ to the world.
