New Vote Ousts 71 Plaintiffs Suing Church

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The congregation of a large Southern Baptist church that voted not to expel 71 dissident members over a week ago has now voted to reverse that decision.
The members filed a lawsuit against Two Rivers Baptist Church of Nashville, Tennessee, last year, seeking financial records they believe will show improper spending.
A move by the Reverend Jerry Sutton and other church leaders to expel the plaintiffs failed two Sundays ago, falling four votes shy of a two-thirds majority. But this past Sunday, the congregation agreed to throw out the ballots cast by members who are suing the church, changing the outcome.
An attorney for the plaintiffs says the new vote has no impact and plaintiffs are still seeking financial records pertaining to pastors' salaries and church credit card statements.
