Jerusalem Police Prepare for Dignitaries

CBNNews.com - JERUSALEM, Israel - Fourteen thousand policemen have been deployed in Jerusalem to protect visiting dignitaries this week, including President and Mrs. George W. Bush, slated to arrive Wednesday.
On Monday, Israeli newspapers printed a detailed list of street closings, along with a disclaimer that city traffic would only be disrupted intermittently as 30 motorcades transporting some 30 heads of state travel from place to place.
President and Mrs. Bush will touch down on a specially constructed helipad at Hebrew University's Givat Ram stadium in Jerusalem at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday and then depart by motorcade at 11:55 for the King David Hotel.
Wednesday afternoon, city traffic will come to a standstill as Bush travels to meetings with Israeli President Shimon Peres and then Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.
Police warned that any private vehicles parked along the route of President Bush's motorcade would be towed to the parking lot at Teddy Stadium near the Jerusalem Mall.
Jerusalemites have been admonished to use public transportation for the rest of the week.
As with Bush's January visit, city streets will be back to normal around 11:00 a.m. Friday morning, giving residents about two hours to prepare for Shabbat , which begins at sundown Friday.
