Police May Have 'Second' Bribery Case

CBNNews.com - JERUSALEM, Israel - Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert may be facing a second bribery case from evidence gathered in the most recent investigation.
Speaking with The Jerusalem Post Tuesday evening, Cmdr. (ret.) Moshe Mizrachi, senior investigator for the police from 2001 to 2004, said the prime minister is in "serious trouble."
"Olmert is in very serious trouble. It is not looking good for him," Mizrachi said.
"The main suspicion is that [Morris] Talansky, for many years, sent money to [Olmert's chief aide] Shula Zaken and to Olmert while he was mayor [of Jerusalem] and minister of industry, trade and labor," he said.
"Then, either Zaken or Olmert would send the money to [Uri] Messer, who acted as cashier, distributing it when needed," Mizrachi said.
"That makes Messer the middleman, the manager of funds, which means the old 2007 investigation into the Investment Center has now been upgraded and made far more severe. Because it has now been established that Messer was the cashier who distributed the funds, and Olmert, as minister of industry, trade and labor, intervened on behalf of Messer to help along an investment that Messer was hired to promote," he said.
"This is no longer a case of conflict of interests regarding the Investment Center investigation. We're looking at full-blown bribery [charges]," he said.
