CBNNews.com - JERUSALEM, Israel - The Shin Bet (General Security Agency) suspects former Arab member of Knesset (MK) Azmi Bishara of actively recruiting for the Lebanese-based Hezbollah terror group.

"According to intelligence gathered by the Shin Bet, Bishara remains in contact with elements that are hostile to the State of Israel," Deputy Attorney General Raz Nizi stated in a letter to the Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel (ADALAH ).

In the letter, Nizri said the Shin Bet advised members of Balad, the Arab Israeli party that Bishara chaired, not to be in contact with him.

In April 2007, Israel police launched an investigation against Bishara for alleged contact with Hezbollah operatives during the Second Lebanon War in the summer of 2006.

Bishara resigned from the Knesset while in Cairo last year because of allegations that he passed strategic information to Hezbollah during the war.

Bishara has not returned to Israel since, though police detained his wife for questioning when she arrived in the country several days ago.
