Soldier's Father May Petition Court

CBNNews.com - JERUSALEM, Israel - Norm Shalit, father of kidnapped Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Corporal Gilad Shalit, threatened to petition the High Court over the "government's deception."
"The Cabinet's decision specifically mentioned that a cease-fire agreement would include Gilad's [Shalit] release," Noam Shalit said on Israel's Channel 2 Wednesday evening.
"Until this moment, we have received no official information. We are concerned that the opening of THE border crossings will cause Israel to lose the only leverage it has on the issue of Gilad's release," he said.
"The prime minister [Ehud Olmert] promised that the issue of Gilad would be part of the cease-fire agreement," he said.
"We've learned our lesson from the Ron Arad tragedy," Shalit said, who feels that the Olmert government has also abandoned his son.
Israeli Air Force Lt. Colonel Ron Arad, captured on October 6, 1986, by Shi'ite militiamen after bailing out of his aircraft over Lebanon, has been classified as missing in action.
In a letter to the prime minister, Shalit's attorneys said the government acted unethically.
"The CEASE-FIRE agreement, as it appears from the media, which endangers Gilad's life and the possibility of his release and conflicts with a list of explicit commitments given to our clients by heads of State, is not only morally illegitimate, outrageous and extremely unreasonable, it is also unlawful."
