Anglican Bishops Meet in Jerusalem

CBNNews.com - JERUSALEM, Israel - Three hundred Anglican bishops arrived in Israel to attend the Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON) this week.
The 300 bishops, representing approximately one-third of the total number of Anglican bishops worldwide, hail from 28 countries. GAFCON is led by Archbishop Peter Akinola of Nigeria.
Participants at this week's conference in Jerusalem are opposed to the movement's ordination of homosexual bishops, a practice introduced in 2003 when an American Episcopal Church ordained Gene Robinson, an professing homosexual, as bishop of New Hampshire.
The purpose of the conference is "to emphasize our connection to Jesus' life and the Bible, while we stand in prayer in the place where He walked," one conference official said.
"We came here, conservatives from around the world, to pray together," said Jim Adams, who serves as bishop of western Kansas.
Bishop Suheil Dawani, the Anglican bishop of Jerusalem, plans to attend next month's Lambeth Conference in London, held every 10 years.
Despite the ordination of homosexual bishops by the movement as a whole, Dawani said he does not want to distance himself from the Archbishop of Canterbury.
