CBNNews.com - SEOUL, South Korea - South Korea has lifted a U.S. beef import ban, imposed amid widespread protest over concerns about mad cow disease.
Public Administration Ministry official Chang Su-wan said his ministry issued a legal notice on the ban Thursday, which was the final step in implementing a new trade accord with the United States.
The new agreement restricts U.S. exports to South Korea to younger cattle, which are considered at less risk of carrying the brain wasting disease.
U.S. beef has been banned from South Korea for most of the past four and a half years, since the first case of mad cow disease in the U.S. was discovered in late 2003.
