Gaza Crossings Closed Again

CBNNews.com - JERUSALEM, Israel - After reopening the crossings with the Gaza Strip Sunday, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak ordered their closure again Tuesday, following more Kassam rocket attacks on western Negev communities Monday evening.
One Kassam landed near a kibbutz, where a crowd of teens were celebrating the beginning of summer vacation at the community swimming pool.
"I don't want to imagine what might have happened if the rocket had landed by the pool," said Shaar Hanegev Regional Council head Alon Schuster.
With the exception of the Erez pedestrian crossing, which remained open for humanitarian needs, the Nahal Oz fuel terminal and the Karni and Sufa crossings were closed.
In the week and a half since the Egyptian-brokered tahadiyeh (temporary calm) went into effect, sporadic rocket and mortar shell attacks have continued on southern Israel.
"Currently we are responding [to the cease-fire violations] by closing the crossings, but if needed we will respond in a different manner," one security official said.
"We would have lived up to our commitments had the cease-fire been upheld, but Hamas chose to violate it," he said.
"The cease-fire was seen as a fragile one from the get-go. It's clear that closing the crossings adds to the tension," a military source said.
