CBNNews.com - ASHKELON, Israel - A new therapy program designed to help Israeli children cope with post-traumatic stress will begin in the coastal city of Ashkelon in the coming school year.

"Bubotherapia" or doll therapy (buba is the Hebrew word for doll) is a popular method enabling children to deal with issues such as internal conflicts, fear, and anxiety using stuffed animals and dolls.

The program's developer and therapist Smadar Cooper-Kesari believes it will aid children in southern cities like Ashkelon and Sderot, where Kassam attacks are becoming the norm. Using stuffed animals resembling sheep, dogs, and roosters may encourage children to develop stronger coping mechanisms without resorting to violence in their adult lives.

"The new program provides the children with tools they can use to cope with emotional and social challenges," Cooper-Kesari said.

"In addition, it develops coping mechanisms, through which they are better able to handle difficult situations in their lives, both as children and later as adults."
