CBNNews.com - KISSUFIM CROSSING, Israel - Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Givati Brigade soldiers shot and killed a suspected infiltrator approaching the security barrier near the Kissufim crossing at the border with Gaza.

Calls to halt and warning shots in the air went unheeded as the man continued moving toward the Israeli side of the border. Soldiers fired another round of warning shots in the air before aiming at his lower body. Finally, they shot and killed him.

Though soldiers found no weapons on the man's body, their actions proceeded according to protocol the IDF said.

"The area has seen numerous attempts to infiltrate Israel and plant explosives [along the border fence]," an IDF officer said. "When Palestinians attempt to cross into Israel, they are considered terror suspects," he said.

The IDF has issued warnings to the Palestinian population in the area that anyone who comes within 1,000 feet of the security fence is putting themselves at risk.

"We are committed to preventing acts of terror against soldiers and Israeli civilians residing in Gaza-vicinity communities, so after the Palestinian did not obey the soldiers' order to stop, there was no other choice but to open fire at him," he said.
