McCain: U.S. Won't Allow 2nd Holocaust

CBNNews.com - JERUSALEM, Israel - In an interview on Israel's Channel 2 news, Republican presidential hopeful Senator John McCain said the US would never allow a second Holocaust.

McCain said he believes that "significant, very painful sanctions on Iran…could modify their behavior," and those sanctions should be applied before resorting to military action.

"I think we have a lot of options to explore before we seriously explore the military option, and I don't think we've exercised those enough," McCain said.

Regarding an Israeli attack, McCain said he hoped "that would never happen."

"I hope that Israel would not feel that threatened," he said, "but I have to look you in the eye and tell you that the United States of American can never allow a second Holocaust," McCain said.

Meanwhile, Barack Obama arrives Tuesday evening for a jam-packed 24-hour visit to Israel.

On Wednesday, Obama will meet with President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Opposition leader and Likud chairman Binyamin Netanyahu.

He will also travel to Ramallah to meet with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and he will take a helicopter tour of the southern Israeli city of Sderot, before leaving early Thursday morning.
