CBNNews.com - JERUSALEM, Israel - A Golani Brigades soldier remains hospitalized after being doused with acid at a checkpoint Monday.

The perpetrator was a 19-year-old Arab woman who passed through the humanitarian aid line, designated for women, children and the elderly with medical needs, which has lighter security checks.

She approached the soldier manning the line, threw acid in his face, and attempted to run back toward Nablus (biblical Shechem).

"My brother asked the woman to approach, but he could not see her hands. Someone called him over the radio transceiver so he lowered his head a bit. That's when she hurled the acid into his eyes," the injured soldier's brother said.

"He tried to wipe his eyes with his hands and dropped his rifle. He told me that he quickly dropped to the ground to locate his weapon. He didn't want anyone to grab it and open fire. As soon as he found the rife, he lay down on top of it," he said.

Troops caught the fleeing woman and took her in for questioning. They believe she carried out a similar attack in the same place a few weeks ago.

"The right eye was severely damaged and in the left eye he has blurry vision," he said. "My brother hopes to recuperate quickly because he is supposed to being an officers' course in a month and a half and he doesn't want to miss it," he said.

Doctors plan to operate on the soldier's eye Thursday afternoon to assess the damage and determine if there's any chance to save his sight.
