McCain: McCain opposes a universal health care plan, but says he will make health care more affordable for Americans. His plan will provide incentives to those who do not receive health insurance through their employer. Individuals would receive a $2,500 tax credit and families would receive a $5,000 tax credit to obtain their own insurance.
He believes competition among providers will improve the quality of health care Americans need. He would also work to raise awareness and promote the use of existing children's health insurance programs while expanding community health centers. McCain's plan would also allow for health insurance policies to be transferable from job to job.

Obama: Obama would create a national health insurance program for those who do not have insurance provided through their employer, or for those who do not qualify for other existing federal programs. He would mandate that all children have health insurance, but would not require adult individuals to have coverage.
He would also offer an income-based subsidy program for those who don't have employer-provided insurance. Health care plans would also be transferable from one job to the next. Obama says he will cut health care costs for the average American family by $2,500 per year.
He also plans to expand Medicaid and prohibit private insurance companies from denying coverage or charging higher rates to those with health issues.
