McCain: McCain believes border security is key in tackling America's immigration issue. He went against many in his own party by supporting comprehensive immigration reform that included a path to legal status for undocumented workers. Quote: "We have to secure our borders. But we also must proceed with a temporary worker program that is verifiable and truly temporary. We must also understand that 12 million people are here, and they are here illegally, and they are God's children."
Obama: Obama also supports immigration reform that would include a path to legal status for undocumented workers. He favors a plan that would allow illegal immigrants in good standing to stay in the U.S. as long as they're making steps towards citizenship. He supports a guest worker program that does not jeopardize American workers from getting jobs first.
The senator supports granting driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. He also supports building a border fence and increased border enforcement.
Quote: "What we have to do is create a comprehensive solution to the problem. As president I will make sure that we finally have the kind of border security that we need. Employers have to be held accountable. When we do those things, we can take the illegal aliens who are here, get them out of the shadows, make sure that they are subject to a stiff penalty, make sure that they're learning English and go to the back of the line so they're not getting an advantage over people who came here legally."
