JERUSALEM, Israel - Foreign Minister and Kadima party chairwoman Tzipi Livni planned to meet with Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz Wednesday.

According to Kadima party officials, Livni expected Mofaz to coordinate his meetings with her.

"Mofaz is damaging our coalition talks," one official reportedly said.

In the party primaries three weeks ago, Livni beat Mofaz by 1 percent of the vote.

Two-Week Extension

On Friday, President Shimon Peres granted the foreign minister a two-week extension to try to form a government.

While Livni originally sought a broad-based coalition, she is reportedly considering a narrow, left-wing 60-member government.

Members of her own party, including Mofaz, as well as members of the Pensioners Party, chaired by Rafi Eitan," are balking at the prospect of a narrow coalition.

"Our inclination is that elections are preferable to a narrow coalition of 60 Knesset members," Rafi said. "It will be impossible to work in such a government."

So far, only Labor has joined Livni's government, though Defense Minister and Labor party chairman Ehud Barak is facing opposition in his own party to the deal.
