Ford: Pastor Omits Rest of Bible Verse

CBNNews.com - WASHINGTON - At Tuesday's state funeral for Gerald Ford in Washington National Cathedral, the former president's pastor preached from the 14th chapter of the Gospel of John.

He began in verse one, but stopped in the middle of verse six.

The Reverend Robert Certain read Jesus' promise to prepare a place in Heaven for his followers and the assurance that "I Am the Way, the Truth and the Life."

But the Episcopalian minister didn't read the remaining words that complete the verse -- in which Jesus says, "No one comes to the Father, except through Me."

The new Episcopal Presiding Bishop, Katharine Jefferts Schori, has suggested that there may be other ways to God than Jesus, for non-Christians.
