FRC President: Giuliani 'Far Outside the Mainstream of Conservative Thought'

This just in to The Brody File. I received the following response from Tony Perkins on what he thinks about Rudy Giuliani's chances to be the next President of the United States. Let me put it this way: he's not thrilled. Perkins is the President of the influential Family Research Council in Washington. His words carry a lot of weight and also give keen insight as to what the movers and shakers within the social conservative movement are thinking.
Here's what he told me about Giuliani who supports abortion rights and gay rights:
"At this point most people have no idea where candidates stand on the issues, the polls simply reflect name ID. Giuliani is known for his impressive leadership in the wake of 9/11, but most pro-family Americans do not yet realize how far outside of the mainstream of conservative thought that Mayor Giuliani social views really are. Once people focus on this election and the candidates Giuliani's lead will diminish. If by some chance Giuliani were to gain the Republican nomination it would set up a very similar scenario that we had last November. A unenthusiastic Republican base which will suppress turnout and set up a Democratic victory."
This is the biggest fear within the Giuliani camp. He must be able to convince social conservatives across this country that his liberal values won't be as big an issue as they think. It'll be an uphill climb.
