Bridal Beauty

You have this beautiful dress you just can’t wait to wear and now you just have to find the perfect hairstyle to compliment it. Some brides know how they want their hair to look but there are some brides who have no idea. You may be lucky enough to have a hairstylist who you trust completely, who knows your hair better than anyone else and can create your “dream do” on your wedding day.

If you don’t, well, you’ll simply need to do some research. Ask other brides whose hairstyles you’ve admired. Check with your bridal salon. Once you’ve gathered all the information, it’s time to set up consultations: the only way to determine if a stylist is right for you. Skip this step and your wedding look may be more hair-raising than head-turning.

I was having difficulty finding a stylist till one day I just happened to walk in to this cute salon, Hair We Are (because my original hair stylist had moved away and left me with out a trusted person to cut my hair). I don’t know about you but I’m pretty picky when it comes to letting someone cut my hair. I was in desperate need for a hair cut though so I just prayed that the person about to cut my hair knew what they were doing. Not only did they know what they were doing, but Jane was the owner and a hair designer with a great personality. We clicked right away and by the end of my hair cut I could tell I found a great stylist to do my hair for the wedding.

You see, I’ve been having a lot of strange dreams as the wedding approaches. Once I dreamt I showed up at the wrong wedding and the guy at the end of the aisle wasn’t my Matt. But I had been having this reoccurring dream where I was all ready to walk down the aisle when I realized my hair was soaking wet and a mess. I literally woke up in a panic. After visiting Jane I can gladly say I haven’t had the dream since.

There are several things you need to remember when trying to find a stylist. Jane gave me some helpful information from a stylist view point that might help you in choosing your style, and better preparing you to find exactly what you are looking for in a stylist.

  1. Take in pictures from Magazines or web sites that have a similar hair style to what you want. Make sure you communicate your wants and desires. If the stylist is unable or unwilling to do that then you just move on to a stylist that can.
  2. If you want a practice run then schedule that the day of your bridal portrait. That way you can see if you like it and not have to worry about how it’s going to look on your wedding day. Some stylists prefer not to do this though because the same hair style will most likely not be identical to the first time it is done. But if you discuss what you want and trust them, then everything should turn out great.
  3. If you are still having problems finding someone that you feel comfortable, go by referrals. Ask friends, family, co-workers. Whom ever you can think of that you know and trust.
  4. If you plan to do your hair yourself, go for it! Just make sure to have a friend there to give you perspective on how it’s turned out. I’ve always done my own hair for every big event, prom, homecoming, other weddings I’ve been in but this time, I’m the bride and I don’t want to worry about doing my own hair. But I want to make sure that I love it. No wet, messy hair before I walk down the aisle, like in my dream.

Hope these tips will come in handy. I have a few more quick tips to ensure the perfect Wedding hair. If you still have questions just talk to your hair stylist or get a magazine and look through it for some great hair do ideas.

  1. Don’t wash your hair the day of. Jane, from Hair We Are, told me that your hair goes up better when it has more of your natural oils still in it. When you wash your hair, it strips away the natural oils. Now don’t misunderstand and come in with dirty hair but just wash it the night before and sleep on it. It will make it much easier for you and your hair stylist to achieve that perfect do.
  2. Make sure you come prepared with any accessories like your veil and headpiece. That way, during your consultation, you can see what hair do’s would look best with those accessories. Hair jewelry and other hair pieces are getting really popular. Make sure your bridesmaids bring those along too.
  3. Don’t get your hair done (or do it yourself) too early on your wedding day, and don’t wear it pulled back too tightly. This can cause a headache. Make sure you give yourself or your stylist plenty of time to work on your hair. If you’re wedding isn’t till 7 p.m. don’t go get your hair done at 7 a.m.

I found a bonus honeymoon hair tip on theknot.com. If you’re headed to a warm, sunny destinations (like me) keep your locks luscious by putting SPF30 sunscreen on just the ends of your hair. It’ll keep damage to a minimum and preserve your color.

Overall girls, don’t forget this is your day to be a princess and the better you prepare yourself by knowing what you want or trying something new, the better you’ll feel on your special day. Take into consideration what works best for your hair and if you know beyond a shadow of doubt that your future husband loves your hair up, then wear it up. You want to look beautiful for him, don’t you?
