OPERATION BLESSING
Hope Restores a Mother’s Broken Heart
CBN.com
Just off a country road in a Romania stands an apartment
building that's easy to miss. There is nothing special outside
- but inside families crowd into tiny, dirty spaces. The yards
outside are filled with garbage and debris. But if you came down
one particular hall and stopped in one particular place, you'd
find a much different scene - a lovely, well kept room. Nothing
is out of place.
Someone is taking good care of this small home, and that someone
is Maria.
Maria is a mother who has very little and is trying very hard to do
the best she can for her family. Her face radiates when she talks about
Jesus.
Maria wants so much to provide a home for her children. With as little
as she has she makes so much out of it.
But the Rubina family faces an obstacle they can't overcome. Their
children don't go to school. Manuel is eligible for kindergarten, and
so is Romona. But the Rubina's can't afford proper clothes and shoes
needed to attend. And the town middle school won't accept her older
boys because they can't read or write. They could attend a special school
in the city that helps children catch up to their grade level, but the
Rubinas can't afford bus tickets.
Instead, the children work all day to help the family make money -
here, in the dump, looking for scraps of iron to recycle and sell. They
get 15 cents per pound.
To see her children work instead of go to school breaks Maria's heart.
But something is about to happen to the Rubina family that will change
their situation - because Operation Blessing has a big presence in Romania!
First, Operation Blessing added the Rubina's to their food distribution.
Then, OB Back to School funds made sure Romona and Manuel had clothes
and shoes so they could attend kindergarten
And Operation Blessing didn't forget about the older boys! Staff members
pick them up and take them into the city to a special school where they're
learning to read and write! Each day they learn more and more, thanks
to something as simple as a ride to school.
And as an added gift, when Operation Blessing saw how hard Maria worked
to keep everything clean, they bought her a washing machine.
