– David and Kristina Goode met and married while both were active-duty in the Army. But because they had different ranks…
“He still had the right to give me an order,” says Kristina. “So I still had to make sure I showed him the respect his collar deserved.”
But later, Kristina was forced to leave the military because of an injury she endured while moving a wall locker.
“I just really enjoyed my job, planned on making a career out of it, and when I injured my back, I was only 27 years old,” she says.
Suddenly they were back to one income, and that left the Goodes little room for many “extras.” One night they tuned into The 700 Club…
“We watched Pat teach on the Law of Reciprocity,” she recalls. “They were having a telethon, and I decided we were gonna give $25 a month. We were tithers. We’ve always been tithers, so this was above and beyond. This was an offering.”
A couple months later, the Goodes got a surprise: Kristina’s V.A. disability check increased. Then a few months later…
“Another telethon came on, and I specifically heard the Lord tell me that it was time to increase,” she says. “So we increased to $45 or $50 a month. A couple months later I received another letter. It was an extra $417 a month! I was really excited and thought, 'This is great, Lord.' Again, clear as day, ‘That’s not your money. Give all of it, all $417.’”
David recalls, “She said, ‘The Lord says it’s not my money. We have to give it away. What do you think about that?’ Like I’m going to argue with the Lord! I said, ‘I guess you need to give it away.’ Since that day we’ve been nothing but blessed.”
Some time later, an emergency came up, and the Goodes needed a large amount of cash. Once again….
“There was a letter from the V.A. for her, so I opened it. They back-paid us from when we initially put in the paperwork in December to July,” says David.
Kristina says, “I immediately called my bank account, and there was $9,000 sitting in my account! Now that we have twice what we started with and still giving to CBN at the Founders level, we are very quickly getting out of debt.”
Today, the Goodes continue to support CBN – something they encourage others to do as well.
“If you can give something from your heart, whether money or an act, it just feels so much better,” David says.
Kristina says, “Whether it’s drilling a well for water or fixing the appearance of babies with a cleft palate, or helping people devastated by Hurricane Katrina … . We might not be able to put one foot in front of other to go where CBN goes, but we can help send ‘em! And that’s been a blessing, a really big blessing to us.”
