A Muslim boat captain is on trial in Spain for pushing six Christians overboard for praying.

Alain NB, a Muslim Cameroonian immigrant, was captain of an inflatable boat carrying migrants from Morocco to Spain. The boat ride took a deadly turn when the captain pushed over six Christians for praying.

According to The Express Tribune, the captain accused the Christians of causing a storm after praying. One of the 29 survivors said Alain NB "blamed the rough seas which were rocking the boat on prayers led by a Catholic pastor on board."

The captain and another Cameroonian passenger who died before trial, tried to combat the worsening weather by ridding the boat of Christians.

According to one witness' testimony, "they badly wounded" a Nigerian pastor "before throwing him overboard." They also stole their victim's money, totaling thousands in cash.

Prosecutors said the Cameroonians were fully "aware that the victims could not possibly survive and that they would die, either by drowning, from the cold, or from the physical injuries they had suffered."

The captain is facing a 90-year prison sentence for the murders that came with a "religious motivation."
