Christian Teen Arrested for Facebook 'Blasphemy'

A Pakistani Christian teen has been arrested and charged with blasphemy against Islam for "liking" a photo on Facebook.

The 16-year-old boy reportedly liked an "inappropriate" photo showing the Kaaba, the giant black cube that Muslims walk around in Mecca. He was arrested because a Muslim thought his Facebook post was insulting.

Under Pakistan's blasphemy laws, anyone accused of insulting Islam can be sentenced to death.

But the laws are often used to settle personal scores and target minorities like Christians. CBN News has covered one such case extensively: the plight of Asia Bibi.

How You Can Write Asia Bibi a Letter

Next month Bibi, who's now been in prison for seven years, will fight for her freedom in a Pakistani court. She was charged with "blasphemy" after Muslim women told a cleric she insulted Islam's founder, Mohammed.

But her trouble actually began when the Muslim women objected to Bibi using their drinking glass because she was not a Muslim.

Last year, in another case of supposed blasphemy, Muslims beat a Christian couple to death and burned their bodies for allegedly desecrating a Koran.
