Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump apologized Thursday for words he has regretted saying throughout his campaign.

"Sometimes, in the heat of debate and speaking on a multitude of issues you don't choose the right words or you say the wrong thing. I have done that and, believe it or not, I regret it," Trump said during a speech in Charlotte, NC.

He did not say which words he specifically regrets, but he did say he was sorry for causing pain.

"I do regret it particularly where it may have caused personal pain," he said.

The business mogul assured voters he would never lie to them.

"I've traveled all across this country laying out my bold and modern agenda for change. In this journey, I will never lie to you. I will never tell you something I do not believe. I will never put anyone's interests ahead of yours," he said.

Trump then struck a different tone, turning to his rival Hillary Clinton and her record of truth.

"So while sometimes I can be too honest, Hillary Clinton is the exact opposite: she never tells the truth. One lie after another, and getting worse each passing day."

He later offered condolences for the flood victims of Louisiana saying,

"We are one nation. When one state hurts, we all hurt," he said. "Our prayers are with the families who have lost loved ones, and we send them our deepest condolences."
