Study: Now More than Ever Americans Divided Along Partisan Lines

If it feels like America has grown more divided, that's because it has.

A new survey shows Republicans and Democrats view each other negatively, and more so since the 2016 election.

Republicans who give Democrats a 'cold' rating has risen 14-points overall, describing Democrats as close-minded, unpatriotic, and immoral.

The trend is similar for Democrats, 75-percent of whom describe the GOP as close-minded, immoral, and unintelligent.

One thing on which partisans see eye to eye? Their inability to agree on 'basic facts'.

Wednesday's blowup between President Trump and House Speaker Pelosi (D-CA) illustrates the incivility at another level.

Trump tweeted pictures from a heated White House meeting with Democrat leaders Wednesday. "Do you think they like me?" he wrote, referring to top Democrats who later walked out of the meeting. They charge the president with insulting Pelosi who is working hard to impeach him. 

Pelosi claimed Trump was "shaken" by a vote earlier on the House floor to condemn his Syria decision. "What we witnessed on the part of the president was a meltdown," Pelosi told reporters. "Sad to say."

GOP members who were there had a different take on what happened. 

"I see a pattern of behavior with Speaker Nancy Pelosi," Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said. "She storms out of another meeting, trying to make it unproductive."
