White House Says Trump Didn't Know It Was a 'White Power' Video, Republicans & Dems Say Still 'Indefensible'

President Trump came under fire this weekend for re-tweeting a video showing a Trump supporter at a Florida retirement community defending the president in a clash with anti-Trump protesters while chanting "white power".

The tweet no longer appears on the president's timeline, and the White House claims he did not hear the "white power" chant that came eight seconds into the video.

On Sunday morning, Republican Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) quickly called for the tweet to be removed.

"I think it's indefensible. We should take it down," Scott told CNN's State of the Union.

The video was on the president's timeline for about three hours before he un-shared it, but without an apology or a denouncement of the video's message. 

On Monday, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany offered this explanation of the situation.

"The president did not hear that phrase in that portion of the video, and when it was signaled to him that it was in there, he took that tweet down," McEnany told Fox and Friends.

Former Vice President Joe Biden criticized the president with his own tweet, saying: "White supremacy should be rooted out and relegated to the pages of history – not promoted by the president of the United States."

Also, over the weekend in Mississippi, the long-fought battle to remove the last confederate symbol remaining on a state flag was finally won in both the House and Senate and celebrated by members on both sides of the aisle.

"By a vote of 37 to 14 the bill passes," declared Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann, (R-MI) to a cheering crowd. 

Mississippi's Republican Governor Tate Reeves says he will sign the bill as soon as it gets to his desk, and voters in the state will approve a new flag design in November's election that must include the words "in God we trust".
