WASHINGTON -- Reports of an active shooter at Joint Base Andrews have been determined to be unfounded, according to a law enforcement official.

The base was put on lockdown earlier Thursday after reports of a gunman. Personnel were told to take shelter as first responders gathered on the scene.

"The base was scheduled to conduct an active shooter exercise. However, reports of a real-world active shooter situation were reported," Joint Base Andrews tweeted earlier.

Andrews is perhaps the most sensitive military bases in the world because it's where Air Force One is stored. It's the base where the president flies in and out of, and it's where foreign dignitaries arrive and depart.
