A random act of kindness in Memphis, Tennessee, blossomed into a worldwide tsunami of giving.

Matt White posted on his Facebook page about a grocery store parking lot encounter he had with an underprivileged teenager who wanted to carry White's bags in exchange for a box of glazed doughnuts;

The post touched a nerve. It went viral, leading to thousands of people wanting to help.

Overwhelmed by the outpouring of generosity, White created a GoFundMe page for the teen that has raised so much money he and his mom can now move into a new home.

"God, I've never known your love like this. I've never witnessed your love unleashed like this. I am in awe," White wrote on the fundraising page.

White posted on his Facebook page the story of how he met 16-year-old Chauncy Jones Black at 9 p.m. at what the teen called "the rich people's Kroger."

Black had taken a bus to the store, hoping to carry people's groceries to their cars in exchange for a box of glazed doughnuts.

When he spoke to White, he realized the teen needed more than a box of doughnuts. So he bought Black a whole shopping cart full of food and supplies.

He went even further by driving the young man home. When they arrived, White recalled holding back tears.

Black and his mom didn't even have beds or other furniture. They were sleeping on the floor, the refrigerator and cupboards were empty. But Black was delighted at the bounty of food he had been given, which warmed White's heart.

"He looked like a kid again," White wrote. "He knew he wasn't going to be hungry."

White said Black is a straight-A student who is determined to become a successful businessman so he can give to the less fortunate when he has the means.

He wrote about their touching goodbye.

"As I was leaving, I gave him a hug and told him how much God loved him, and that he was going to grow up to be an incredible man," White wrote.

"I'll never forget that hug. It meant more to me than any possession I have," he continued. "Our God is an awesome God, and we can never be thankful enough for the blessings we have."

The people who read that post clearly agree, and out of an abundance of generosity are making it possible for Black and his mom to have a proper home, the ability to find employment, and even receive needed dental work.

"It starts small," White said. "A simple act of kindness, but it can ripple out and create an ocean of prosperity in the world."
