TSA Chief Sacked, Long Wait Lines at Airports Continue

In the latest in a series of shakeups, the Department of Homeland Security replaced the head of the Transportation Security Administration.
A House Oversight Committee announced the decision on Monday, as complaints over growing security delays at airports across the country continued.
Kelly Hoggan, who held the position since 2013, received more than $90,000 in bonuses from late 2013 through late 2014.
Not long afterward, a Homeland Security inspector general's office discovered that TSA employees failed to find explosives, weapons, and other dangerous items in more than 95 percent of tests at airport security checkpoints.
That report and other allegations of mismanagement at TSA put the agency in the spotlight, including hearings on Capitol Hill.
Hoggan's ouster comes amid growing concerns of massive security lines at airports across the country this summer.
The long lines have been blamed on the increase in passengers during the busy summer season and a shortage of screening officers at checkpoints.
There have even been reports of thousands of passengers missing their flights because of the long wait times, a situation that has frustrated many travelers.
"It's taken longer," a passenger named Thierry Vo said. "TSA pre-check is a lot longer than it used to be. I've missed three flights because of, you know, standing in line."
Meanwhile, the TSA continues to warn people about wait times as a record number of air travelers are expected to head for the skies this summer.
