Photographer Captures Heartbreaking Moment 12-Year-Old Boy Says Goodbye to His Father, a 9/11 First Responder

Saying goodbye to a parent is never easy. But, a photographer captured the heartbreaking moment a young son said goodbye to his father, who died of cancer relating to the 9/11 terror attacks.

In a poignant photo being shared around the world, 12-year-old Brian Falb Jr. kisses the casket containing his father, Brian Falb Sr.

New York-based photographer Damian Battinelli documented the funeral for Brian Falb Jr. after being asked by the family, he wrote on Facebook.

Brian Falb Sr., a New York State Trooper, died of cancer he developed after responding to the attacks at the World Trade Center in New York City in 2001. Hundreds of fellow police officers attended his funeral service to rally “for their fallen brother,” Battinelli wrote on Facebook.

In the photo, with the hundreds of officers standing behind the family, Brian Falb. Jr. wears his father’s police hat.

Battinelli had also shot photos of Brian Falb Sr. months before his untimely death, saying that the former trooper was “proud” to don his uniform against for the portraits.

Battinelli has said that he hopes to bring awareness to the long-term health effects and deaths that still occur as a result to exposure of toxins from 9/11.
