Indonesia: Catholic Priest Stabbed by ISIS Terrorist During Mass

A 60-year-old Catholic priest in Indonesia was stabbed during Sunday morning mass by an ISIS jihadi wielding an axe.

The 18-year-old terrorist attacked the preist after attempting to blow up hundreds of worshippers with a homemade backpack bomb at St. Yoseph Church in Medan, the capital of North Sumatra. 

When the man rushed toward the alter and tried to blow himself up, the bomb just burned without setting off the explosives. He then grabbed his axe and directed it at the priest.

Priest Albert Pandiangan was slashed on the arm and taken to the hospital after the incident. His injuries are minor. 

The congregation detained the suspect who was covered in blood. He was later taken into custody by police. 

Officers found his ID card and a hand-drawn ISIS flag with his belongings. His ID card reportedly identifies him as a Muslim. 

The attacker told police he was not acting alone.
