At least 250 ISIS fighters were killed in U.S.-led coalition airstrikes that began Tuesday night and continued through Wednesday in Fallujah.

Reuters reports the strikes are among the deadliest ever launched against the terror group. They are part of a series of attacks to loosen ISIS' weakened grip over Fallujah.

The city, once a key Islamic State stronghold, is no longer under the terror group's control. The Iraqi government recently declared victory over ISIS in Fallujah after fighting the jihadists for weeks. Most of the terrorists are dead or have since fled the city.

But despite the victory, officials are still concerned that ISIS will continue to inspire terrorism on Western soil, like the deadly attacks in Orlando and Istanbul.

"We've made, I think, some significant progress, along with our coalition partners, in Syria and Iraq, where most of the ISIS members are resident right now," CIA chief John Brennan said at a forum in Washington. "But ISIS' ability to continue to propagate its narrative, as well as to incite and carry out these attacks -- I think we still have a ways to go before we're able to say that we have made some significant progress against them."

The air assault came about 24 hours after the horrific suicide bombing at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport, which killed 41 people and injured more than 200 others.
