Eight New Arrests Made in Nice Truck Terrorist Attack

French authorities have just made eight new arrests in the terrorist attack on Nice that left 86 dead earlier this year.

The eight arrested suspects are Tunisian and French and had links to the attacker, Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel. Bouhlel plowed a 19-ton truck into a crowd assembled for Bastille Day on July 14.

The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack, calling him a soldier for the Islamic State in their ongoing war on the West.

At least five people already face preliminary terrorism charges for the attack. They are accused of helping Bouhlel obtain resources for the attack, including the pistol that wounded and killed dozens. However, it is not clear what specific role the recently arrested men played in the terrorist attack.

French prosecutor Francois Molins said information from Bouhlel's phone showed searches and photos that indicated he had been planning the attack for nearly a year.

The recent arrests come after U.S. authorities arrested Ahmad Khan Rahami, an Afghan immigrant who planted make-shift bombs in New York and New Jersey.

"We have every reason to believe this was an act of terror," New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said after Rahami's capture.

The arrests come at a time when international authorities are on high alert for more ISIS-inspired terror attacks on the West.
