Aid Organizations on the Ground and Ready to Help Carribean Islands Hit Hard by Maria

Humanitarian organizations continue to ramp up relief efforts by supplying food, water, and supplies to the Carribean. 

Samaritan's Purse plans to remain a strong presence in St. Martin, Antigua, Barbuda and Puerto Rico. 

"We have personnel riding out Hurricane Maria on Puerto Rico," read a statement on their website. "We are in strategic position to assist as needed once the storm passes."

It has only been two weeks since Hurricane Irma hit these storm-ravaged areas.

"Hurricane Irma leveled islands in the Caribbean and devastated the Florida coast," said Evangelist Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan's Purse. "We are taking critically needed supplies to storm survivors and coming alongside affected families. We want to meet their physical needs while showing them the love of Christ. Please pray for all those affected by this horrific storm."
 

Samaritan's Purse in partnership with local churches and have handed out emergency relief supplies to more than 1,000 households. 

"The church doesn't just have the responsibility of looking after the church in a time of crisis, but of looking after the whole community," said Dones Lapaix, a local pastor in St. Martin.

"A big problem is that everyone is homeless unexpectedly," he said. "As soon as Samaritan's Purse arrived with these items it was very helpful. Many homes in our community have no roofs, only walls."

Now the organization plans to expand its efforts to the Turks and Caicos and continue their work in Puerto Rico.

Carribean cruise lines are jumping aboard on recovery efforts by sending cash and supplies to several islands. 

Carnival Corp. Chairman Micky Arison has pledged $2.5 million to relief charities from his family's foundation. 

"All funds raised will go towards rebuilding the areas and helping the people who need it most," read a statement from the organization

The Israeli-American owns Carnival, Holland America, Princess, and Costa as well as the Miami Heat. 

The Carnival foundation and the Miami Heat Charitable foundation have pledged to raise a total of $5 million for recovery efforts. 

Over the next several weeks the cruise lines will send water, food, toiletries, medical supplies, and clothing.
