The Lifelong Ministry of Father Zakaria

September 29, 2006

Father Zakaria --Steve Little

If you spend any time with Father Zakaria Boutros you’ll begin to wonder why this kindly priest has generated so much animosity in the world. He is soft-spoken, with a ready smile and puts visitors at ease. Yet, Muslim leaders have put a $60 million dollar bounty on his head.

Persecution is nothing new to Father Zakaria. His brother was killed by Muslims when he was just a teen in Egypt. Yet, God gave him a love for Muslims and a strong desire to see them find salvation in Christ.

As a Coptic priest in Egypt he saw hundreds of Muslims come to Christ after they experienced healings and deliverance from demonic oppression though his ministry. That ministry so outraged the authorities that he was arrested and spent an entire year in solitary confinement. Ten years later they arrested him again and held him for four days without food and water before kicking him out of the country.

Father Zakaria later served as a priest in Coptic parishes in Australia and the United Kingdom, where he once again found himself under attack for his strong convictions about Islam. Only then it was Western church leaders who criticized him for his politically incorrect preaching on his convictions that Muslims should leave Islam and find faith in Christ.

Today, Father Zakaria is having a greater impact than he ever imagined and he marvels that God waited until he was in his 70’s and ‘retired’ to use him to bring thousands of Muslims to Christ.
