My interview with Jon Meacham, the Managing Editor of Newsweek magazine who wrote American Gospel and a companion article in Newsweek, "God and the Founding Fathers", is airing on The 700 Club.
“George Washington wouldn’t kneel to pray and wasn’t known to take communion. Thomas Jefferson cut passages of scripture he didn’t like from his Bible. Yes, our founding fathers had their foibles. No patron saints in the group. No early American apostles. However, men of faith they were, and what they wanted was very clear: a sovereign God as the bedrock of the new American democracy.”

The “streamed” interview is also available here.
A tidbit of “name dropping” from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for those who have been asking about our experience there.
I had opportunity with my wife Nedra, the Ronette and inductee, to talk with actors Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon, who were seated at our table.
Nedra too had a good conversation with Michael J. Fox, a victim of Parkinson’s disease, who was seated next to us. Nedra told him he was being prayed for, and he expressed real appreciation, stating that he felt it was prayer that was keeping him going.
I had a pretty “gutsy” conversation with Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, who presented the Ronettes for induction and is an old friend.
We also had opportunity to talk with Michael Stipe and Peter Buck of R.E.M. and Patti Smith co-inductees, who were very warm, and issued invitations to come visit them.
Jill Hennessy, of the TV show, Crossing Jordan, a big Ronette fan, and Nedra clucked on for quite a while.
Robbie Robertson, formerly of The Band, and I talked of the “old days” in NYC and experiences with Bob Dylan.
Paul Shaffer, band leader for the evening, and also conductor for the David Letterman show, was an absolute master in recreating the Ronette/Phil Spector sound for the R & R HOF concert with 21 instruments. Nedra said it was the best backing she has ever had on stage. Paul too, was a real joy to be around and converse with.
All these people are now regularly in our prayers and can be in yours too. Nedra and I plan to find time on following up with a number of these folks and just hang out together.
Thanks one and all.
