CBN.com – Don wrote the song, “Hiding Place,” in 2006. Don recalls seeing all of the people running out of buildings after the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, DC, looking for a place to go. “They went to church,” Don says. He reminds us that God is our hiding place. “People are drawn there – they know there’s something more,” he says. Now with the nation facing the huge tragedy that occurred on the Virginia Tech campus, he says people will be searching for answers. Don puts it simply that God is our hiding place. “Psalm 32:7 tells us that He is our hiding place, that He will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance,” Don says. “I hope these songs remind people that he is the rock that cannot be shaken, a shelter in the time of storm and a refuge in times of trouble.”

“Hear Us From Heaven” was written by Jared Anderson. Don put this on his Hiding Place project because it’s a universal prayer that everyone can sing. The lyrics include, “Open the blind eyes, unlock the deaf ears…” and Don says it encourages people to have faith to be healed. Regarding the situation in our nation and world right now with the Virginia Tech massacre, terrorism, etc that all the social programs in the world are not going to solve the situations. They help, but ultimately a person must be changed from the inside out…not because of a good social program. We need to repent and ask for forgiveness.

Don has written over 100 worship songs. Some of his most well known songs are “God Will Make A Way,” “God is Good All the Time,” and “Blessed Be the Name of the Lord.” He’s also the only recording artist in the Christian community who is also the head of a major record label. “Balancing my different roles is probably the hardest thing I do. I couldn’t do this without a lot of talented people around me,” says Don. “I think I have a unique perspective because I am still writing songs and touring. It’s about getting everyone to use their best gifts, including me.”

Don grew up in Minnesota before moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to attend Oral Roberts University. He joined the worship team, Living Sound, which ministered in communist countries in the Eastern Block and former Soviet Union. For 10 years, Don was responsible for the group’s arrangements and productions. He saw the powerful effect of praise and worship on closed hearts. In 1984, Integrity Music asked Don to lead worship on the first Hosanna! Music album, Give Thanks. The project was one of Integrity’s most popular recordings ever. Don eventually joined the staff of Integrity and serves as President today.

In addition to his writing and recording, Don makes time to tour domestically and abroad. His most recent tour included Indonesia and Ghana.
